Did Oracle phase out the standalone Record It! tool?
No. The initial release of UPK Developer did not include the tool but with the most recent update (12.1.0.2) the standalone Record It! tool has been reinstated

Oracle released a second service pack for UPK Developer release 12.1 on Oct. 26, 2015, making the most current version of UPK Developer 12.1.0.2

Yes. The UPK Player is DHTML and can be accessed behind most firewalls.
When I click on a link to launch the Player nothing happens.
The UPK Player opens in a new browser window. If you have a pop-up blocker installed, disable or uninstall it.

UPK Developer has an button called “Scan for Lost Documents” in the General Library settings. Bread Crumbs Tools/Options/General-Library If you still encounter recovery issues afterwards, contact Technical Support.

Using admin controls you can set the access permissions per developer or group.
Which is the best method for recording simulations, manual or automatic?
It’s developers preference. Each method of recording has it’s own merits and advantages, it is ultimately up to the developer as to which they use to record the simulations.
